.PAUL AUGUSTINUS - BIOGRAPHY

Paul Augustinus was born in Denmark in 1952. He grew up in East Africa and went to school in Mombassa, Dar-Es-Salaam and also Harar. In 1976 he obtained a B.Sc. Degree in Geology and worked for only one year in that profession before resigning, buying his first Land Cruiser and then becoming a resident of Botswana in 1977. Here his plan to become a field based artist were fulfilled beyond all his wildest expectations, as this was in the era before the present tourism boom in Botswana when there still was great freedom to live and camp free thorough the wilds of Ngamilands Okavango Delta and the Chobe district.
He has spent 15 of the last 28 years in the field, under canvas, in his own "studio camps" situated in some of Africa's last remaining bastions of wildlife and wilderness. This includes 10 solid years in Botswana, three years spent roughing it in Namibia following the elusive desert elephants and coastal lions of the Kaokovelds Skeleton Coast wilderness, and 8 months of spectacular adventure trekking alone through the pristine rainforests of the Sangha River basin in Equatorial Africa. He has also traveled extensively in North America, Asia, and Europe in the pursuit of material for his wildlife paintings.
He lives with his wife Clarissa in East Africa, where he is at present busily at work painting for future shows and happily dividing h
is time between between the Mara Triangle in Masailand, Lamu and Zanzibar on the coast, and Nairobi where they have a home in Muthaiga. He is also completing two new books that are due for release in the near future.
